Autumn. Outside it’s dark and pouring with rain. A black Mercedes speeds down the road. In addition to the driver, there are three other passengers in the vehicle. They were in Maribor for the first time, and two of them were in Europe for the first time. They soon reach their destination and the guests, tired from travelling all day, arrange when the driver should pick them up the next morning. They are all going to the international conference about the current state of Europe and among them is one of the most notable guests, star of the conference Kevin Douglas. The next morning a fisherman finds a body in the Drava river. This is how the investigation into the murder of Douglas begins, led by Superindendent Martin Vrenko with his two colleagues, the newly wed Inspector Marko Breznik and Chief Inspector Ivana Premk.
