The Luminarium is the enchanted shop of the even more mysterious and magical Mr Pippin. To the casual visitor, it is never quite clear— Is he a shopkeeper, a storyteller, or a magician? In truth, he becomes whatever his visitors need. His shop offers dance lessons and dormitories for children with nowhere to sleep. Visitors may even find a new mother—if only they can see her with new eyes. And as for payment? Bartering works just fine… or a well-performed magic trick. In The Luminarium, everyone is welcome—even those who come just to visit.
One December evening, when the power goes out in the City of a Thousand Trees, the Duskie family is left in the dark. Luckily, their son Ray is also a magician, and before Mr Duskie can stumble and break a bone or two, he conjures up a candle.
The whole city is shrouded in darkness,
but far and wide, one light still shines—
The Luminarium, Mr Pippin’s magical shop,
glowing like a lantern, drawing people near
with a melody never heard before:
